Vernon Police Department
On Sunday, August 14, 2011 at approximately 3:03 a.m., the State Police, Vernon Police Department, and Brattleboro Police responded to a call of an armed and barricaded suicidal person in the town of Vernon.
Edward Reardon of Tyler Hill Road initially threatened to harm himself. When the police arrived at Reardon's residence, he came outside and fired several gunshots, then went back inside.
The State Police Hostage Negotiation Unite made contact with Mr. Reardon, who was found to be alone in the residence. After a five hour standoff, Reardon surrendered and was taken into custody.
Tyler Hill Road was closed for several hours and the Vernon Fire Department and Guilford Fire Department assisted. Rescue, Inc. was also on standby.
No one was injured in the incident.
Mr. Reardon is charged with Reckless Endangerment, and will answer to the charge in Windham County Superior Court on Monday, August 15, 2011.
