Vernon Man gets 6 months for weapons charge

BRATTLEBORO – Rodney Allen Moore, 44, of Vernon, was sentenced on Friday in U.S. District Court to six months in jail after pleading guilty to one count of possessing a weapon after conviction of a felony.

Moore also recieved two years of supervised release following the completion of his jail term from Judge J. Garvan Murtha.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Burlington, Moore, who was previously convicted of three felony offenses, was found to be in possession of a Remington Woodmaster rifle on Nov. 17, 2008, in violation of federal law.

U.S. Attorney Tristham J. Coffin said the prosecution of Moore was part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhood, which is designed to reduce gun crime in the United States through the cooperation of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Coffin cited the work of agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife in bringing the case to a conclusion.

Moore was represented in court by Richard K. Bowen of Springfield.
